Natural MD Radio: The Bone Broth Diet with Kellyann Petrucci

Is bone broth the next food fad, or is it something more substantial? Some people call it liquid gold, while others are just saying it’s the latest craze.

Turns out bone broth isn’t so new. My grandmothers used to make bone broth to help stay healthy, boost the immune system, and get a lot of nutrients in their diet.

Join me as I speak with my friend Kellyann Petrucci about this trend. Kellyann is a certified nutrition consultant and a naturopathic doctor, and author of the new New York Times Bestseller The Bone Broth Diet. Listen in to hear more about the bone broth diet, the three steps to make this diet work long term, and the success stories she’s seen – that can be yours, too!

I love bone broth. I have a question about the diet. What if I don't want to lose weight? What if I want to maintain and just have the benefits of the broth for gut healing, reducing inflammation, and slowing down the aging process? Is there information in the book for this or is it mostly a weight loss protocol?

Hi Lisa, Bringing bone broth into your protocol does not necessarily have to be a weight loss protocol! It really depends on what your goal is and how you work with it. I drink bone broth nearly every day and I am not trying to lose weight, if anything it has helped me keep a MORE steady weight!! Hi Aviva, In the past you've mentioned concern about concentration of heavy metals in bone broth. Can you offer a brief description of your current take on the risk vs. benefit of bone broth?

I think it can be a healthful addition to the diet - but like all things - moderation is important - and so is using organic stock material at least to minimize the risks of heavy metals from the bones - which store lead especially.
